A message from LIFE-WORK PLANNING CENTER: formerly A Minnesota Displaced Homemaker Program

Effective August 1, 2020, the Minnesota Displaced Homemaker Program has changed its name to the Minnesota Family Resiliency Partnership. This name change aligns well with the program’s focus on empowering those navigating significant life transitions while working towards economic self-sufficiency.  Life-Work Planning Center Director, Jean Keenan says she is, “very excited about the name change because it more accurately reflects the strength of the individuals we serve–resiliency!”

Administered through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the Minnesota Family Resiliency Partnership is a career pathways program that provides participants with individualized support focused on career exploration, education, and training to gain the life skills needed to secure and maintain employment.  Participants are caregivers, previously dependent on the financial support of others, who have lost that income due to death, disability, divorce, abandonment, or loss of public assistance.  As they navigate this significant life change and all that comes with it, the Minnesota Family Resiliency Partnership is there to help.

While the name has changed, the need for support has not. Across 2018 and 2019, 63% of program participants were victims of domestic violence, 85% were not receiving court-ordered child support, and 27% entered the program homeless. The Minnesota Family Resiliency Partnership served over 5400 individuals, including their families and children, and saw a 97% successful completion rate. The partnership remains committed to their mission and will continue to support through crisis and periods of instability while empowering all who are served to become agents of change in their own lives.
